Is it "age related"?

If you’ve been on this planet for any extended period of time, there is a good chance you have visited a physicians office related to some type of pain you are having. And there’s a pretty good chance, if you’ve been diagnosed with any arthritic or degenerative changes during the course of your exam, you may have heard the doctor tell you your condition is “age related”. This seems to be the default answer doctors give to patients when the doctor cannot come up with a sound differential diagnosis. So are they telling you the truth or not?
Arthritis literally means, “joint inflammation”. If you’ve ever experienced stiff, swollen joints, congratulations, you have experienced arthritis. Arthritis can result from enduring an injury that prohibits us from moving around, and arthritis can also be the result of not moving around enough. As we become more sedentary we have a tendency to move less and sit more. Joints become stiff and achy, and mobility becomes more limited due to the tightening and shortening of muscles and tendons. These things can lead to degeneration which is a condition that can be the direct result of improper movement patterns or lack of mobility altogether.
As we age our tendency to, “get out and do more”, becomes inhibited by time constraints, deadlines, work, commutes, parental obligations, spousal obligations, etc., etc. and by the time we are done with all of those things we are too exhausted to, “move more”. Degeneration does not occur overnight. It is the result of years and years of improper movement patterns, lack of mobility, lack of hydration, and lack of proper nutrition.
There are many facets to optimal health, and they must all be addressed for you to live your best life physically AND mentally. By making your health and wellness a priority you can often alter or reverse degenerative changes that are occurring in your body and affecting your well-being. You may not be able to get back lost time, but you CAN make up for lost time by taking care of yourself and making YOU a priority. Stretching, massage, chiropractic adjustments, exercise, and clean eating can help you reverse the detrimental effects of “aging” so you can live a long, healthy, and pain free life.
